  • Dutch Industrial Growth Is Strong but Uneven
  • Dutch Industrial Growth Is Strong but Uneven

Dutch industrial production is rising, led by machinery. Suppliers still need to test every order against margin, payment terms and available cash.
    August 12, 2026 by
    Paolo Maria Pavan

Dutch industrial production was 4.6% higher in June 2026 than a year earlier. Machinery production rose 26.2%, while most other major branches produced less. Adjusted output fell 1.3% from May. Growth is concentrated in machinery.

    Why this matters

National output says nothing about whether your orders pay well. First-quarter industrial turnover rose 2.3%, while average selling prices fell 1.2%. Foreign turnover increased 4.0%, but domestic turnover declined 0.5%. For an industrial supplier, the customer mix shapes cash needs. A new order may require materials, overtime, and subcontractors before the customer pays. Output can rise while cash and margin tighten.

    Example

A machinery customer asks a supplier to deliver earlier. The supplier buys materials now and pays a subcontractor within 14 days. Customer payment follows 60 days after acceptance. The workshop gets busier, but cash leaves first. The order can still pay off if its margin covers materials, overtime, and the wait for payment.

    XTROVERSO tips

    • Split the order book. Keep signed orders, forecasts, and informal customer requests separate. Record the customer, sector, delivery date, and expected invoice date for each order.
    • Check margin per order. Include materials, transport, overtime, subcontractors, and rework. A larger invoice does not always leave a better margin.
    • Prepare a 13-week cash plan. Set expected customer receipts beside payroll, VAT, supplier invoices, stock purchases, and loan payments.
    • Review payment terms. Check when you may issue each invoice and when payment should arrive. Where the contract permits, ask for a deposit or staged billing.
    • Test fixed commitments. Compare permanent staff, machinery, and premises with confirmed profitable work. Do not base fixed costs on a forecast from one strong customer.

XTROVERSO can link your order book, margins, and cash plan before you commit extra capacity
